Petrol: Price goes up 31c

2009-03-30 00:00

THE price of petrol (95 octane) will go up by 31 cents a litre from tonight and the wholesale price of diesel by 39,5, Peter Morgan, CEO of the Fuel Retailers’ Association, told The Witness.

The hikes are due to the implementation of two taxes announced by Finance Minister Trevor Manuel in his national budget speech in February.

He announced that the fuel levies will rise by 23 cents a litre for petrol and 24 cents for diesel.

Motorists will also have to fork out 17,5 cents a litre due to an increase in the road accident fund levy.

Morgan said the price of 93 octane petrol will rise by 36 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of paraffin will decrease by five cents a litre.
