Pienaar: Blues or Spurs?

2011-01-13 00:00

PREMIERSHIP giants Chelsea have emerged as the club to make a bid to sign Bafana Bafana midfielder Steven Pienaar from under the noses of Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports yesterday.

Some reports yesterday had it that Pienaar, whose contract with current club Everton comes to an end at the conclusion of the current English season in May, has already agreed to join Tottenham at a £70 000 a week salary.

It was not yet clear whether Tottenham were willing to pay a £2 million transfer fee for Pienaar to sign the midfielder this month, or if the club would wait until the end of the season to snatch the player up on a free transfer for next to nothing.

However, conflicting reports were that Chelsea were attempting to sneak in with a late bid to sign the dynamic midfielder for £3 million. (see Witness Sport)
