Pink Mynah festival: Gay network celebrates

2008-11-19 00:00

It’s a celebration of all things pink in Pietermaritzburg on November 29, when the Gay and Lesbian Network takes to the streets to celebrate the Pink Mynah Festival.

The parade, to be led by drum majorettes from Fezokuhle Primary School, celebrates the start of a week of festivities for the network, culminating in the Mr and Miss Gay KZN Pageant at the Golden Horse Casino on December 6.

The parade starts at the Kismet Hotel in Langalibelele Street at 9 am and will meander up to the city hall before returning to the hotel. There will be floats and fun for everyone, so be sure to join the celebrations.

The network is a registered non-profit organisation and aims to address the social and developmental needs of the gay and lesbian community in Pietermaritzburg and the midlands region.

The week-long festivities will highlight some of the issues that gay and lesbian people face.

A variety of workshops, films and events will be held throughout the week.

A workshop entitled “Living Positively”, conducted with an HIV support group, will be held on December 1, World Aids Day.

That evening at 6pm the film, Rampant: How a City Stopped a Plague, will be screened. There is no admission charge for either of the events and all are welcome.

Tickets to the Mr and Miss Gay Pageant are available from Anthony at R80 each. For information, contact Anthony at
