Pionier come out on top to be awarded gold

THE 24th Vryheid Festival was a great success. For the first time in a number of years, Pionier, also from Vryheid, were invited to participate.

Pionier came out on top, winning the final game 15-6 against George Campbell to be awarded the gold medal. On the second day, Pionier had beaten the Maritzburg College second-third combination 15-6. George Campbell beat hosts Vryheid 19-9 on the second day.

The Absa Bank trophy for the side playing the most attractive rugby in the three games, went to Hentie Cilliers from Virginia in the Free State. Greytown won the Joe Dyer trophy for the team scoring the most tries. The player who scored the most points was Luzane Williams, who was awarded the SA Homeloans trophy.

The Adidas trophy for the Player of the Week went to Ronaldo Abrahams, a wing from Hentie Cilliers.
