Pippie doing well after scar tissue op

2012-12-20 00:00

SOUTH Africa’s best-known burn victim, Pippie Kruger, had scar tissue removed from underneath her left arm and is recovering well.

Pippie’ mother, Anice Kruger, said yesterday the scar tissue hindered Pippie’s movement. Since the operation she has already straightened her arms and “is now trying to touch everything”, said Kruger.

The operation, which took place on Tuesday, lasted about an hour and Pippie was released yesterday morning.

Doctor Ridwan Mia, Pippie’s plastic surgeon, did the operation at the Garden City hospital in Johannesburg.

Kruger said the surgeon was amazed at Pippie's progress. “He really did not expect her to move her arms so soon after the operation.”

Pippie has had several operations since a bottle of fire lighter gel exploded in her dad Erwin’s hands and burned her in a jet of flame some five metres from a braai on New Year’s eve last year.

“I can see Pippie has a lot pain but she hides it well. She just wants love and attention,” said Kruger.
