Pistorius, Taylor-Memmory court case put on hold

2013-02-15 00:00

THE court case between Oscar Pistorius and a female friend of his ex-girlfriend was set to start on February 20 in the high court in Pretoria.

The legal teams of Pistorius and student Cassidy Taylor-Memmory have agreed to postpone the case indefinitely.

Sarel Roux Incorporated in Pretoria, the counsel for Taylor-Memmory, yesterday confirmed on her behalf that the two parties were in discussions, but because of the sensitive nature of the talks, no details could be divulged at this stage.

Pistorius is claiming R2,2 million in damages from Taylor-Memmory. He alleges that she — as a friend of his ex-girlfriend — had on September 12, 2009 maliciously laid a false charge of assault against him, which resulted in him being arrested and taken into custody.

He was not prosecuted on the charge.

He said that he suffered damages of R2 218 988 because of Taylor-Memmory’s actions, because two companies refused to renew “brand ambassador” contracts.

Pistorius said Taylor-Memmory alleged he had slammed the wooden door of his home shut on her so hard that a piece of wood fell on her leg.

After this she laid additional charges with the police.
