Pixie bows out of 'Idols'

2009-03-30 00:00

Howick High Idols hopeful Pixie Bennett sang an emotional goodbye on last night’s results show.

Although she received lavish praise from the judges on Sunday night for her performance of Marc Alex’s Quick Quick, the 25-year-old lost her spot in the top six of M-Net’s Idols by just 30 votes to Durban’s Lendel Moonsamy.

Bennett has long been a favourite, even when she has not performed at her best, and featured in the top half on results shows in the past few weeks.

The judges have called her “full of life”, “cute”, “the definition of a pop idol”, and, of course, “talented”.

She has regularly been complimented on her willingness to try out songs that are different in style — whether or not they worked for her.

For the first time in Season V, M-Net Idols recorded more than half a million votes in one voting period — a grand total of 534 908 votes. Of these, 34 908 votes were cast in the final 30 minutes before the voting lines closed.

Local favourite Jason Hartmann is still in the running. But it’s up to you, the voters, to keep him there.

Watch Idols on M-Net this Sunday at 5.30 pm.
