Play calls for tolerance

2009-03-17 00:00

Actors (left to right) Thabang Ramorobi, Mzwa Shelembe and Sthembile Nsimbini of the Theatre for Social Change switch political T-shirts at the taxi rank on the corner of Hoosen Haffejee and Masukwana streets at lunchtime yesterday. The play, entitled Chuza Maikhethela or Choose as you like, was organised by the KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council in co-operation with a range of other organisations working under the umbrella of the KZN Democracy and Elections Forum in order to spread the messages of tolerance and freedom of choice during election time. KZNCC head of advocacy Dr Lucas Ngoetjana said by staging the play at the taxi rank, it was possible to target people travelling to and from rural areas where political intolerance is often more pronounced. The group will perform throughout the province, with a performance at the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel on March 24, to which all political parties will be invited.
