Plessislaer: ‘students must write exams’

2012-10-16 00:00

STUDENTS of the Umgungundlovu FET College who attend lectures at the Plessislaer campus have been warned to be in class today, when scheduled tests will go ahead.

Lectures and tests went ahead at the college’s three other campuses yesterday, following an agreement reached at the weekend, but the Plessislaer campus entrance was blocked with bins and tyres, and none of the students attended lectures.

Police were called in, but no protesters were seen when they arrived.

The college’s students went on strike last week against poor learning facilities and living conditions. Some were arrested when they ignored police instructions to disperse.

College marketing manager Lynn Horan warned Plessislaer campus students to ensure they are in class today as they will have to write tests.

The 20 students who were arrested have been released on warning after the council chairperson intervened. The group will be back in court on November 29, after finishing their exams.
