Plumtree makes four changes to Sharks for Golden Lions clash

2012-08-17 00:00

SHARKS coach John Plumtree has made four changes to the team that downed Western Province for tomorrow night’s Currie Cup outing against the Golden Lions at King’s Park.

Three experienced Super Rugby players — fullback Louis Ludik, scrumhalf Charl McLeod and lock Anton Bresler — return to the side after being rested for the Newlands game, while Plumtree has also made a change to his backrow.

The in-form Ludik takes over from Gouws Prinsloo at fullback while McLeod replaces young scrumhalf Cobus Reinach, who impressed on his Currie Cup debut in Cape Town.

Bresler, in for Jandré Marais, showed excellent form in the latter stages of the Super Rugby competition and he should boost the shaky Sharks’ lineout.

In a second change to the pack, veteran flank Jacques Botes moves to eighthman in place of Tera Mtembu, and Francois Kleinhans will make his first start for the Sharks off the side of the scrum.

Lions coach and former Sharks lock Johann Ackermann has made one forced change to the team that beat the Free State Cheetahs last Saturday.

Number eight Derick Minnie suffered a knee ligament injury during the win over Free Sate and he will be sidelined for some six weeks.

Warren Whiteley, another former Shark, will replace him, with Jaco Kriel joining the bench.

It will be Whiteley’s first start since he damaged a knee four months ago.

Experienced South African referee Mark Lawrence will handle the game, which kicks off at 7.15 pm and follows the Test match between the Springboks and Argentina at 5 pm.
