Poachers’ dogs savage woman

2011-11-11 00:00

A PADDOCK woman has been hospitalised after she was attacked by a pack of hunting dogs at 3 am on Wednesday morning.

The owner of the property on which the woman lives said, “Her husband works for me and they live on my property.

“She had gone from her room to relieve herself when she was attacked by the dogs.”

The middle-aged women suffered serious bite wounds.

“She was bitten all over and has suffered some punctures as well. S

She has been hospitalised and is being kept overnight for observation.”

The owners called off the dogs and fled the scene with the pack.

The owner of the property said the woman will make a statement to the police when she is in a stable condition. The owner, who declined to give a name for fear of victimisation, said there is an ongoing problem with poachers in the area.

“They are trespassing on private property and hunting game illegally.

“We complain to the police, but nothing is being done about it.

“Someone is going to end up getting shot one day because the hunters are also armed.”

The owner said that workers in the area have been intimidated by poachers after they reported them to the security guards.

The dogs are used to hunt down game such as duiker, red hartebeest and other antelopes.

“We have lots of game here and we have just re-introduced oribi, which are an endangered species.”
