Poaching: suspect arrested while on bail from 2009

2013-03-21 00:00

THERE was good news and bad on the rhino poaching front in the past week.

Another animal was found poached, in the Tembe reserve, while a well-known alleged poacher was arrested in possession of rhino horn while out on bail in a case from 2009.

The East Coast Radio KZN Rhino Watch helicopter has been kept very busy inside and around the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.

The helicopter is funded by donations, which last week included R1 500 from an anonymous donor and R5 000 from Esiweni Lodge near Ladysmith.

In addition, Miss India SA Youth Pageant first princess Tatum Naidoo, who is just 12, deposited the winnings from the contest and her own pocket money into the project’s bank account.

Next Wednesday, staff and pupils of Crescent Girls’ High School in Parlock, Durban, will be fundraising for the project with a walk along the Durban beachfront, from the old snake park to uShaka Marine World and back from 8.30 am to 10.30 am.
