Poisoned dogs: four held for housebreaking

2014-05-30 00:00

FOUR alleged housebreakers who are believed to have poisoned a resident’s dogs have been arrested.

It’s alleged that on May 5 the four broke into a house in the Seven Oaks area near Greytown. It is alleged that they poisoned the dogs before they went into the yard.

They used their angle grinders to cut open the firearm safe and took an undisclosed amount of cash, a laptop, TV set and four firearms including two shotguns, a .22 rifle and a .38 special revolver, as well as ammunition.

They were arrested in the Pietermaritzburg and Greytown areas and three stolen firearms were recovered. Two of the four suspects appeared at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Gcwabaza Mkhize (35) and Zama Ximba (26) face charges of the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Yesterday they also appeared alongside their co-accused, Makhosonke (18) and Muziwendoda Dlamini (39), for housebreaking and theft of firearms.
