Poisoning: Williams granted R5?000 bail

2011-10-11 00:00

A PIETERMARITZBURG man, Dave Allen Williams (51), who faces a charge that he recently conspired to murder his wife Vinoo by poisoning her, was granted R5 000 bail by Pietermaritzburg regional court magistrate Jaco Jordaan yesterday.

The application was not opposed by the state.

Prosecutor Pranisha Kasool initially asked the court to make it a condition of bail that Williams have no contact at all with his wife pending the finalisation of the case, but Williams appealed to the court, telling the magistrate he had a “long” talk to his wife by telephone from prison and that they might be able to “resolve matters”.

He wanted to know if he would not be able to see his wife if she wanted to see him.

After discussing the issue with the prosecutor, Jordaan changed the bail conditions to enable Williams to see his wife in order to try and reach a resolution, but ordered that he must reside in his own flat away from her.

He also has to report twice weekly to the organised crime unit in Pietermaritzburg.

Williams is charged with conspiring to murder his wife between September 26 and October 4 this year.

He was arrested after police allegedly received information concerning the plan and set up a “sting” operation.

The case has been adjourned to November 11 for further investigation.
