Police bust crack denin Boom St

2011-05-02 00:00

POLICE arrested a man in his twenties for being in possession of uncut cocaine with an estimated street value of R100 000 at a house in Boom Street on Friday afternoon.

The arrest was a joint intelligence operation conducted by members of KwaZulu-Natal Provincial crime intelligence, Mountain Rise Police crime prevention and Pietermaritzburg organised crime unit.

Police were conducting intelligence work when they stumbled on drug paraphernalia in a house they were investigating.

They asked permission from the suspect to conduct a search to see if there were drugs in the house because there was evidence that people were using drugs there.

Said a provincial crime intelligence member, who wished to remain anonymous, “Upon investigating the house we found drugs hidden in the ceiling in a coffee container.

“The suspect told us that there were 19 uncut ‘jaws’ and a compressed block of cocaine in the coffee tin.”

When they inspected the contents of the container they found that there were 9,5 uncut jaws of crack cocaine and one compressed block of crack cocaine.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan confirmed the incident and said the arrested suspect is scheduled to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for dealing in cocaine.
