Police seek identities of two killed by trains

2009-01-15 00:00

POLICE are still trying to identify a woman who was run over by a train in December, and the teenager killed by a train on Tuesday evening.

Police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan said the woman was found gravely injured on the railway line in Boyd Road, Boughton.

She was taken to Edendale Hospital, but died a day later of severe head injuries.

“The deceased was aged about 50 years old and was of medium build, short in height, light in complexion and had short grey hair.

“She was wearing a blue floral dress with a light blue jersey at the time of the incident,” said Jeevan.

By yesterday, police had not been able to identify the 18-year-old girl who died on Tuesday after a vehicle she was a passenger in was hit by a train at a level crossing in Edendale.

The Witness reported that the owner of the vehicle, Welcome Ngidi, claimed that the young woman was his girlfriend, though he did not know her surname. His brother, Vusi, was driving at the time of the accident. Vusi was severely injured.

Anyone with information about the Boughton accident is asked to contact Detective Constable Sizwe Sibisi of the Prestbury Detective Services, at 033 845 7764 or 083 988 5398.

People with information about Tuesday’s accident should contact detectives at Plessislaer police station at 033 398 9752, or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
