POLICE in Pietermaritzburg are baffled by the mysterious disappearance of 95 dockets from a locked office in Alexandra Road police station.

Sources said the dockets involve mainly petty offences such as theft or drunk driving.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane confirmed the theft of the dockets.

He told Weekend Witness that police at Alexandra Road “are investigating a case of burglary at a business premises” in connection with their disappearance.

“It is alleged that on Wednesday morning, January 29 at about 7.30 am, one of the detectives reported for duty and discovered that his office door was open. Upon further inspection he noticed that 95 of his dockets, which included charges related to theft, malicious damage to property and drunken driving, were taken.”

Zwane said it was believed the investigating officer had locked his door the previous evening (Tuesday, January 28) and that “no forced entry was noted on the premises”.
