Police sting brings down drug dealers

2012-09-03 00:00

A JOINT undercover sting by the SAPS in Richards Bay saw another two drug dealers caught selling cocaine, tik and ecstasy arrested on Saturday.

The operation in Arboretum saw over R40 000 worth of drugs and R27 000 in cash confiscated from a man at the Ocean Rest complex. A second man was arrested with ecstasy on Klapperkop Street.

An undercover police officer bought drugs from the men before they were arrested. SAPS Richards Bay spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said the arrests were the result of two months’ investigation into a drug syndicate operating in the town.

“This was a combined operation with the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and Public Order Police. The drugs found include crack cocaine, cocaine, ketamine and tik, and more arrests are likely. At the first arrest we found the money stashed among the furniture,” said Ferreira.

The men will appear in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court today.

This was the second drug bust in Richards Bay in less than a week.

Last week, the KwaDukuza SAPS cluster arrested Chemeka Ernest Ozuluoba (39) in Birdswood in possession of R120 000 worth of drugs, and drug-making equipment.

He was released on bail of R3 500 on Wednesday and will appear in court again on September 26.
