2010-09-07 00:00

A SENIOR Popcru member, who allegedly threatened his police colleagues during a hostage drama in Pietermaritzburg late last week, is in a local private hospital having apparently suffered a nervous breakdown.

The warrant officer, who is a Popcru shop steward, was admitted at Medi-Clinic Hospital on Friday, a day after he threatened his colleagues at a SA Police Force disciplinary hearing in Davis Alexander building in Church Street.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said it is feared that the officer is suffering from nervous breakdown.

“We don’t know what he is suffering from, but we think he is stressed out,” said Jeevan.

The officer, who cannot be named, has since been charged with intimidation.

Jeevan said the officer’s docket hadsbeen forwarded to the office of public prosecutor for a decision.
