Police to check cctv footage for parent who dumped baby

2012-11-12 00:00

A NINE-month-old baby was found dumped in a concrete dustbin outside the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Mall in Richards Bay last night.

The baby boy was declared dead on the scene. The state coroner removed the infant to the state mortuary.

The child had been placed inside a shopping bag and covered with linen.

The centre manager, Madalene Smit, said security staff found the large bag inside the dustbin at one of its entrances at about 6.45 pm. “Upon finding the little corpse, he alerted the police. He did not see anyone dumping the bag,” she said.

The police are due to examine the CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the person who dumped the child. — WR.
