Police trace runaway suspect

2014-01-07 00:00

WESTVILLE detectives yesterday managed to arrest a suspect who had earlier escaped when two suspected house robbers were arrested.

Makhosandile Sandile Msingwa (28), will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today.

A warrant of arrest was earlier issued for his arrest after two alleged accomplices were arrested in the Port Shepstone area with a vehicle that was taken during the Westville robbery.

Five sets of car keys that were taken during the robbery were found inside the recovered vehicle.

The two other suspects have already appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

The case against one of them was withdrawn due to insufficient evidence, while Sphamandla Ntwanyana (19) remains in custody.

The case stems from an incident on June 3 when a 60-year-old woman was overpowered at her house by two men who threatened her with a knife. They allegedly fled the scene in a Toyota Corolla.

It is further alleged that Msingwa, who was working for the victim, joined the two attackers later and drove towards Port Shepstone.

It was here that the local police spotted the Toyota Corolla and stopped it.

Two men who were in the vehicle were arrested but Msingwa ran away.
