Police warn Trafalgar residents after fourth attack

2012-09-07 00:00

POLICE are urging homeowners in Trafalgar to close doors and windows and be on high alert when at their gates, after the fourth attack in the village in 12 days.

Four men attacked Kathleen and Archie Berrange on Tuesday night. The couple were startled by a loud bang when the perpetrators brazenly smashed a sliding door using a pole, police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka told The Witness.

“The men entered the house and threatened the couple. They fled with cellphones, handbags, a wallet, undisclosed amount of cash and personal documents.”

Archie Berrange sustained injuries on his leg and face during the robbery.

Mfeka urged people in Trafalgar to tighten security at their homes and not to leave windows, doors and security gates open. “The public is also urged to be vigilant when driving home and to inform the police of any strangers lurking around or suspect vehicles.”

Mfeka added that Margate police were working around the clock to arrest the suspects as these robberies were of great concern.

No suspects have been arrested so far, but good detective work saw two suspects appear in Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court last week, in connection with the first of four attacks in the area in the past 12 days.

Bho Mpisane (22) and Lindani Ngcobo (19) are in custody and will appear in court again on September 10.

Three people were attacked in Hood Road, followed by another attack in Effingham Road, where the homeowner was stabbed.

The third attack occurred in Cunningham Road, where a mother and daughter were confronted by two men.
