Polokwane City lets Pantsil go

2013-10-17 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Following reports linking Ghanaian international defender John Pantsil with a possible move to Premier Soccer League (PSL) rookies Polokwane City, the deal between the two parties failed to go through due to the player’s personal terms.

City spokesperson Patrick Baloyi confirmed yesterday that they could not reach an agreement with the former West Ham United full-back as far as the personal terms were concerned.

“We failed to sign Pantsil because he did not agree personal terms with us, so we saw it suitable to let the player go,” Baloyi told Sport24 exclusively.

“He is a good player with a lot of international experience, but a decision was taken to let him go,” he added.

The Ghanaian ended up signing with the National First Division outfit Santos.

Baloyi revealed that Arise and Shine are currently focusing on their present squad until they find a new coach.

The newly promoted side are still without a coach after the departure of Duncan Lechesa who was shown the door due to a poor run of results last month.

Baloyi also said that the club had already begun with their efforts to bring a new mentor on board — possibly before the end of today.

“Until we find a coach, we are not going to attempt to sign any other player.

“At the moment we are working on finding a new coach.”

Although Baloyi did not reveal the name of the next coach, former Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has been strongly linked with a move to the Limpopo side.
