THE high court sitting in Pongola has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for a double murder and attempted murder.

Ndumiso Sikhakhane (31) was convicted and sentenced on Thursday to two life sentences on two counts of murder and 15 years for attempted murder for his part in the killing of Mholi Gabela (24) and Mduduzi Nkosi (25) in the Nongoma area.

His co-accused, Sifiso Mnyandu (26), was convicted and sentenced in 2007 by the high court in Mtubatuba to 12 years’ imprisonment for his involvement in the attack.

The case dates back to an evening in January 2005 when the three victims were at a tuckshop in the Okhukwaneni area.

The accused opened fire, fatally wounding Gabela and Nkosi.

The third victim was seriously wounded and taken to the local hospital for treatment.
