Port Shepstone: Police network celebrates Women’s Month

2011-08-31 00:00

THE South African Police Women’s Network for Port Shepstone, Margate and Kokstad met at the Umzinto town hall on Friday to celebrate Women’s Month.

Colonel Gerald Singh from the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Labour Relations emphasised the rights of women, particularly in regard to sexual harassment in the workplace. His address was accompanied by a slide presentation based on the policy agreement by the Safety and Security Sectoral Bargaining Council.

Jayshree Mannie, a consultant in motional and physical wellbeing, used motivational and empowerment activities to make women aware of the need for their personal wellbeing and introduced them to meditation therapy.

The event was co-ordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Theresa Pillay, the Msinsini station commander and Port Shepstone Cluster Women’s Network Champion.

The women’s network was established in 2003. It aims to forge strong bonds between women in the police to ensure women in leadership positions help mentor those at lower levels and to ensure that women recognise themselves as equal to their male counterparts. This is to allow for co-operation between all employees and lends itself to improve service delivery.
