Port Shepstone police officers commended

ELEVEN officers stationed at Port Shepstone police station recently received commendation certificates for excellent performance, issued by the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General B.M. Ngobeni.

The certificates were presented by the station commander, Brigadier Agnes Nxamangele,

The cluster commander, Major General Frank Holloway, forwarded his recommendation for acknowledgement of good work to the provincial commissioner following the arrests in the Yunus Molisar murder case.

On April 1, 2009, Molisar, was reported missing by his family at Umzinto police station.

A senior detective, Captain Vinesh Maharaj, contacted Detective Captain Mariana Vos in Port Shepstone informing her of the report.

Vos immediately took action, and with a team of officers started investigating. Within hours four suspects were arrested. Molisar’s remains were found, items belonging to the deceased were recovered, and the murder weapon, a hammer, was confiscated in Murchison.

Two of the suspects were found guilty of the murder. On September 22 this year, Dumisani Patrick Cimela and Charles Yanda Xolo were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 15 years for the robbery. The case against two other accused was withdrawn, one being a state witness and the other through insufficient evidence.

The officers who received the commendation certificates are Captain M. Vos, Inspector T.G. Mtambo, Inspector J. Botha, Inspector L. Mjweni, Constable D. Malan, Inspector L. Best, Constable C. Rana, Constable D.L. Hlophe, Sergeant R.M.P. da Rosa, Inspector N. Pragdeen and Captain V. Maharaj.
