Positive spin-off for hardware merger

THE recent incorporation of the Dewalt brand into the Stanley Bostitch group will have several positive spin-offs for the Pietermaritzburg-based Stanley Bostitch Allan Bros operation.

Speaking to The Witness at an event held in Pietermaritzburg to celebrate the incorporation of the Dewalt brand into the group, Stanley Bostitch Allan Bros GM Max Cardona said the deal came about following the amalgamation of Stanley Bostitch and Black & Decker.

Stanley Bostitch is a global manufacturer of nailers, staplers, fasteners, compressors and accessories for construction, industrial, and office applications — while Dewalt is a well-known brand of power tools used in industry.

Cardona said the move will allow Stanley Bostitch Allan Bros to offer a more diverse range to the woodworking industry and that it opens other doors for the local operation.

“It offers us the possibility of attracting a wider range of customers, including customers from the mechanical engineering industries,” Cardona said.

“These are new industries for us to target.”

Allan Bros was a family-owned local business established over three decades ago and was bought by Stanley Bostitch four years ago.

The local operation covers about 16 000 square metres and employs 52 people. Manufacturing a range of industrial nails and staples, it is the largest company of its kind in South Africa.
