Poster contest: entries excel

2010-09-21 00:00

HOWICK West Primary School held a poster/collage competition to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in South Africa.

Several schools took part, and the sponsor of the prizes, Jay Rangiah of Hargreaves Library Services, described the standard of entries as excellent.

The winning school in each grade received R1 500 for first place, R750 for second and R250 for third. The overall winner was given R1 000 and each of the other winners R250.

Rangiah described the poster competition as a fun way to learn history and said he has learnt something from the pupils’ research.

The overall winner was Howick West grade five pupil Sayil Bhagwandin.

Rangiah said Sayil can be proud of his effort because it was not only visually attractive but the information was well-researched, full of detail and easy to read.
