Power: Hilton has yet another outage

2009-05-07 00:00

Hilton residents were left without electricity once again yesterday evening, despite being assured that the problem had been sorted out.

According to a Hilton resident who called in to The Witness last night, the suburb experienced yet another power outage last night at around 6 pm.

“You call into the electricity emergency hotline and all they can say is ‘Er … I don’t know’,” he said. “They said they would transfer me, but then they dropped the call.”

Last night’s outage was the fourth one this week for Hilton.

Yesterday, The Witness reported that Msunduzi Municipality strategic executive manager for infrastructure, services and facilities Phil Mashoko gave an assurance that the power supply to the Hilton area is reliable as the two problematic 33kV lines that caused the outages have been serviced and upgraded.

“Every day just before we’re about to prepare supper ... boom, there go the lights,” said the caller. “We don’t know what to do. I would personally like to speak to Phil Mashoko about it.”

Mashoko could not be reached for comment.
