Power cuts not due to shedding

2008-02-07 00:00

Power outages in Msunduzi this week have not been caused by load shedding but by other faults on the city’s electricity network.

The Witness heard reports that parts of the city were without power at times and frustrated residents complained that it appeared Msunduzi was not sticking to its published load-shedding schedules, but were switching off suburbs randomly.

But Maxwell Mthembu, acting process manager for electricity at Msunduzi, told The Witness they have been sticking to the schedules scrupulously and that other outages were not related to load shedding.

He also appealed to people to understand that load shedding only occurs when Eskom asks for capacity and not as a matter of course.

“I have been inundated with angry people calling me to ask why their lights have not gone off,” said Mthembu.
