Power outage for repair

2013-01-31 00:00

MORE than 30 residential areas and the CBD will experience power outages for about five hours tomorrow evening until the early hours of Saturday.

In a notice issued yesterday, Msunduzi municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma said that during this period the municipality would be doing urgent repairs to the primary network, a damaged tower, in Camps Drift.

The affected areas are Chase Valley, Scottsville, Pelham, Montrose, Wembley, the CBD, Westgate, Grange, Ridge Park, Foxhill, Richmond Crest, Bisley, Clarendon, Napierville, Prestbury, Boughton, Blackridge, Hilton, Town Bush Valley, Oak Park, World’s View, Winterskloof, Mpumuza, Phayipini, Sweetwaters, Camps Drift, Signal Hill, Townhill, Ferncliffe, Northern Park and Chasedene.

“The job is expected to last from 11.30 pm on Friday to 4 am on Saturday morning,” he said.

Zuma said that if the interruption were cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances it would be rescheduled to another date. “Customers are warned that installations should be treated as ‘live’ during the full duration of the shutdown.”

Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business CEO Melanie Veness said there was no question that the work needed to be carried out.

“People will always be affected by outages, whether they are planned or unplanned. In this case, I think that the municipality had done well to inform us timeously and that they have been as considerate as possible when planning the maintenance work,” she said.
