Power: some areas still without

2009-01-05 00:00

The severe storm that ripped through parts of the province over the weekend damaged Eskom power lines, leading to power outages in many areas, the power utility said yesterday.

Eskom regional spokeswoman Joyce Zingoni said the affected areas included Cato Ridge, Edendale, Greytown, Richmond, Inchanga and Wartburg.

While parts of the Richmond area had their power restored by Sunday night, all the other areas were still without power yesterday morning.

Zingoni said it was expected that power would be restored by midnight, apart from some areas within Wartburg where power will be restored today.

The Witness also understands that residents in Howick south were also without electricity.

Zingoni said that it is possible that there are faults caused by the storms that Eskom is not aware of. She urged customers to report these by phoning 08600 37566 or SMSing 084 655 5778, 082 941 3707 or 083 647 1951.

Eskom thanks customers in the affected areas for their “patience and understanding”.
