Power still out in some PMB areas

2009-01-07 00:00

Some local residents are still without electricity.

A woman from the Table Mountain area complained that although most parts of her neighbourhood have been reconnected, many residents — particularly in the vicinity of her home — haven’t “seen light” since Saturday.

“Can you imagine not having a warm bath in five days,” she said, “My hair is disgusting. It’s really not bearable anymore.”

The Table Mountain resident said that the shop owner down the road from her threw out a lot of his stock because it had spoiled. “It must have been about R3 500’s worth of goods just gone to waste,” she added.

Joyce Zingoni, the regional communication manager for Eskom, said that they would like customers that are without electricity to be patient, as they are working around the clock to restore supply.

“The reason that there are some areas without electricity to date is that the supplies to these customers had substation damage, main line damage and low voltage line damage,” she said.

“Hence repairs started on subs, then on main line and then LV lines so it took a while before we got down to the LV line.”

Zingoni said that if a resident’s power is still out, they must call Eskom’s call centre at 08600 37566 and log a fault — “if they have already done so, then we will get to them,” she added.

Residents can also send an SMS to either 084 655 5778, 082 941 3707 or 083 647 1951.
