Premier office: ‘no messenger is using Audi quattro’

2011-06-21 00:00

THE office of Premier Zweli Mkhize has denied accusations by the Democratic Alliance that a messenger is driving a luxury Audi Quattro worth over R550 000.

A statement by DA transport spokesperson Radley Keys said 59 vehicles with a collective value of about R12 million are listed within the premier’s office. This includes a luxury vehicle valued at R635 384 used as a pool car,and an Audi Quattro, valued at R564 610, which is driven by a messenger in the provincial Agricultural Department.

Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said “a genuine mistake was made by referring to the car as being used by a messenger”.

“Actually, that vehicle was bought by a previous head of department and is being utilised by the current HOD in cases where a rough terrain vehicle is needed.

“No messenger is using the Audi Quattro or any other vehicle of that calibre,” Sibiya said.
