Premier ready to be quizzed at public meeting

2011-05-13 00:00

THERE will be a public meeting with KZN Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize on Monday, May 16, at the Truro Hall at 7 pm

Leading ANC members Babu Baijoo, Speaker in the Msunduzi Municipality and Yusuf Bhamjee, uMgungundlovu district mayor, said yesterday they were aware that many residents of Msunduzi-Pietermaritzburg are very upset about events in the municipality.

Baijoo said the meeting will be an opportunity for residents to directly raise their concerns with the premier. It will also give the premier and representatives of the council an opportunity to inform the public about progress in strengthening the municipality and future plans.

Both Baijoo and Bhamjee believe that hopefully the meeting will help residents decide on their approach to the elections on Wednesday.

In a statement they say, “the meeting is not just about local government. You are free to raise any issues you want. We are aware that people have concerns about a range of issues beyond local government, and we believe that the premier should respond to them.”

Residents are encouraged to email issues, so that the responses can be dealt with in the premier’s initial address.
