Prestbury police station named KZN’s finest detective branch

PRESTBURY police station has the best detective branch in KwqaZulu-Natal.

This was disclosed at the third Community Awards for Police Excellence recently.

The event was held at the Durban City Hall late last month with 183 police stations around the province taking part.

The winners were nominated and selected by the communities that the stations serve.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu said the outcome of the awards is to entrench and promote the concept of community policing.

“The broad objectives of these excellence awards are to identify and reward stations or individuals that have demonstrated outstanding ability in various levels of community policing, with the winners drawn from 10 categories, from ‘Best Police Station’ to ‘Best CPF Co-ordinator’.

“They are a recognition that policing is a partnership [between] those who subscribe to the notion of safer communities,” he said.

Prestbury police station was voted as having the best detectives, and received a trophy in recognition of their hard work.

Acting branch commander Detective Inspector Phillip Lemmer said the award is positive feedback from the community.

“This is an indication of our dedication to fighting crime and the good working relationship between ourselves and the community we serve at large. I must say that branch commander Inspector Derrick Moses pushed hard last year, motivating members of the station to work closely with the community. Now we are reaping the rewards,” he said.
