Pretoria zoo: Missing black mamba’s tweets trend on twitter

2013-03-20 00:00

“MAYBE if I’d gotten more love, I would have stayed”, the Pretoria zoo’s missing black mamba tweeted yesterday.

The mamba’s Twitter account, @ptablackmamba, said the two-metre snake was “trying to avoid the police” out of fear they might think it was from Mozambique.

By last night, the account drew 142 followers and, according to, began “trending” on the site.

The snake has been on the lam since last Monday.

The zoo’s marketing manager, Craig Allenby, said they think it might be lurking in the ceiling above its enclosure.

“In all likelihood, it is confined to the service area behind the terrarium, including passages and the roof.”

He said the zoo did not set up the Twitter account. On Facebook, they tried to reassure visitors that the risk was minimal.
