Project to plant muthi trees in chaos

The plants that were due to be planted on a stretch of 700 hectares of land have not been processed due to mudslinging among the stakeholders, and over 1 000 of them remain unplanted.

On October 21, when the project was launched, about 34 to 40 plants were planted and the rest of the vegetation was left with the Richmond Municipality with a view that they would be planted later.

The council has distanced itself from the project and a few days after the ceremony, they instructed the local clinic to collect the plants from them because they had no adequate space to store them.

There they lay in further ruin since the clinic did not have space to accommodate them either.

One of the local traditional healers, Nana Makhanya, who was part of the group of traditional healers initially incorporated into the project said she is yet to see the fruition of those promises.

“These plants aren’t helping us at all since we have these kinds of plant in the area anyway,” said traditional healer Vusi Dlamini.
