Property: residents say old St Anne’s is an eyesore

2008-09-03 00:00

Concerned residents of Jabu Ndlovu (Loop) Street have complained about the dilapidated old St Anne’s Hospital building.

They say the neglected building is an eyesore and has a negative impact on the value of their properties.

The old St Anne’s building is the property of the department of Public Works’ real estate division.

“We are no longer able to sell our property because the potential buyers are not happy about the condition of this building. It must be sold to people who can use it because it is obvious that it was left to decay,” said one resident who did not want to be named.

When The Witness visited the building recently, the building had broken windows and paint that is peeling off. The grass at the back has been left uncut.

KZN department of Public Works acting spokesman, Nkululeko Ngcamu, said that there has been a recommendation to have the building allocated to Correctional Services for use as offices, but this has not yet been finalised.
