Proteas expected to have new selection panel

2015-04-09 00:00

CAPE TOWN — South Africa’s national cricket team could soon have a new selection panel.

According to Netwerk24, the current panel’s tenure has come to an end following the Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Their last job will be to name a Proteas squad for the upcoming tour to Bangladesh in July.

It is also uncertain if national convenor of selectors Andrew Hudson will remain in his role. He has yet to indicate if he will stand for a third term.

The provincial union’s CEOs and presidents have already been informed that they must vote for a new selection panel.

According to Altaaf Kazi, spokesperson for Cricket SA, the current panel can be re-appointed if they are again nominated. The deadline for nominations is April 30.

Apart from Hudson, the rest of the selection panel consists of Shafiek Abrahams (former EP and SA player), Hussein Manack (former Gauteng player), Linda Zondi (former KZN player) and Russell Domingo (Proteas coach).

Vincent Barnes, CSA’s high performance manager, and transformation manager Max Jordaan were also allowed to give insights but didn’t have voting rights.

The new selection panel is expected to be announced at CSA’s next board meeting on June 2.
