Provincial Competition: Inland aiming to overtake Coastal

2013-04-04 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Inland cricket team go into their last round of matches in the CSA Provincial Competition this weekend and one of coach Grant Morgan’s goals is for his charges to leapfrog ahead of KZN Coastal on the final three-day log.

Inland begin their three-day match against Easterns in Benoni today and Morgan is sticking with the players who have been with him in the team’s recent matches.

“I am developing this side … we don’t see it as the last game of the season, but rather a continuing process,” Morgan told The Witness yesterday.

KZN Coastal are one place ahead of the 12th-placed Inland on the 14-team log and a win against Easterns will ensure the Pietermaritzburg-based side finish the season above their Durban-based neighbours.

Easterns are coached by Heinrich Malan, who as a player was once coached by Morgan.

The Benoni-based lads are placed seventh on the log, 30 points ahead of Inland and have won four matches to Inland’s two.

“Their batting has been inconsistent, but in the bowling department Easterns have been impressive,” said Morgan.

“They are capable of beating the best sides, but have

also tripped up against the lowest-ranked teams,” the Inland coach added.

Yusuf Abdullah could well come into the Inland side for Sunday’s T20 match.

T20: Brad Moses, SJ Erwee, Kyle Nipper (captain), Matt Hulett, Tyler Lortan, Ruhan Pretorius, Mbasa Gqadushe, Brady Barends, Tabraiz Shamsi, Kyle Heyns, Yusuf Abdullah, Abram Ndhlovu.
