Pupil robs teacher of cellphone and cash

2014-03-21 00:00

A TEACHER was robbed of a cellphone and cash by one of his pupils at Mvuzo Secondary School in France location, near Thornville, yesterday.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said Lucky Mlambo (32) was teaching a class when he was approached by a pupil known to him and who requested a favour from him.

When Mlambo refused to assist the pupil, he produced a knife and slit the teacher’s pocket.

He then took Mlambo’s cellphone and cash, and fled from the school premises.

“The student has not yet been arrested,” said Zwane, adding that Alexandra Road detectives are investigating a case of robbery.

Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said they would not tolerate crime in schools.

“The parents must know that we won’t be able to accept this child in our school as he is a danger to teachers, learners and society. We don’t know what he can do next and would like to see justice taking its course,” he said.
