Pupils protest over sex pest teachers

2009-08-25 00:00

A MANAGEMENT team at the Education Department district level was yesterday deployed to restore calm at a Durban school after pupils disrupted classes calling for the school principal to go.

The principal is accused of making sexual advances to female pupils.

This includes allegations that he tried to kiss the pupils, and used inappropriate language with them.

While The Witness has learnt that none of the pupils has so far brought forward any concrete evidence, the KZN Department of Education has said it views the allegations seriously.

However, according to spokeswoman Mbali Thusi, for now they remain just that — allegations.

“There is an investigation going on regarding these allegations and we want it to take the shortest possible period,” Thusi said.

It was reported yesterday that pupils at the troubled Makhumbuza High School are calling for the resignation of the acting principal.

A number of male teachers at the school are being investigated for sexual relations with pupils

According to the pupils, the school head has failed them by failing to act against teachers who do not attend classes.
