Quality ‘behind McDonald’s success’

2008-01-17 00:00

Drive-through clientele and a quality set-up located in an area that is fast gaining a reputation as Pietermaritzburg’s “CBD away from the CBD” are factors that have combined to ensure the success of the new McDonald’s restaurant on Chatterton Road, according to Attish Khoosal, the owner/operator of both franchise restaurants in the city.

Khoosal also owns and runs the “main” McDonald’s restaurant, which ranks among the top sales turnover restaurants within the McDonald’s group.

He revealed that once the festive period performances of both businesses are combined, they boast a 30% increase in sales. In addition, he noted that the new restaurant has performed above projections.

The move to establish the new restaurant began in May 2007, when the group settled on the Chatterton Road site. Khoosal aims to recover some of the clientele lost due to an over-subscription of the first branch in recent years.

Khoosal said the McDonald’s group views Pietermaritzburg as a “four or five-restaurant city” — an acknowledgement of the city’s growth as a solid consumer market. He praised the group for the high level of support given to owner-operators.

Khoosal, who possesses in-depth knowledge of the business, stressed that they continually focus on issues related to standards and quality.
