Queues build up at Northdale hospital

2013-03-26 00:00

A PATIENT who arrived at Northdale Hospital at 4 am yesterday and had still not been attended to by 10 am was baffled by the sudden drop in service standards at the hospital.

The outpatients’ department had been running smoothly for more than a year. Previously, long queues and slow service had been the norm.

The patient, who did not want to be named, was one of several people who called The Witness yesterday.

The patients complained that the queue had hardly moved and that there was a bottle- neck in the admissions section. Word was that the staff were on a go-slow.

But Northdale Hospital public relations officer Mandisa Dlamini denied there was a go-slow and said the delays and long queues had built up after the long weekend.

The chairperson of the hospital board, Rachel Soobiah, who went to investigate the problem, said she had found that many of the people who missed their clinic appointments last week, because of the public holiday, went to the hospital yesterday instead.
