Quins will test Varsity’s resolve

2008-04-11 00:00

A FULL round of club rugby fixtures awaits players and teams Saturday afternoon, with the interest in the capital city centred on Maritzburg Varsity, where the campus-based sides tackle Harlequins, and Midlands U20s face the same club.

In the Premier Division, Varsity firsts will be determined to right the wrongs of their drubbing away to Crusaders last time out, but in Quins they face opponents who won’t lie down easily in this 3.30 pm muscle-up.

The Midlands U20A and B sides, too, will be aiming to get back on a winning trail after their A team’s comprehensive defeat of an admittedly disjointed Jaguars. They will also be keen to erase the memory of last week’s disappointing defeats to the Crusaders from Durban North.

The Quins U20s, though, have shown much promise this season and they will have targeted coach Steve Botha’s Midlands U20A line-up as a possible five-pointer in this 12.30 pm dust-up.

PMB Waratahs travel to Winterton to meet Drakensberg in a First Division South clash, and the onus will again be on experienced campaigners to pull the new boys through.

PMB Collegians hit the south coast road for their match with Amanzimtoti. The Kokstad farmers host Wentworth and they must fancy their chances.

In First Division North fare, the traditional Newcastle/Ladysmith battle is usually a fiery affair, while Vryheid welcome Sentraal.
