R2 million dagga stash recovered

2012-12-04 00:00

A ROUTINE stop-and-search operation on Saturday led Mtubatuba police to a drug stash of R2 million.

Spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said police were stopping and checking vehicles on the N2 near Mtubatuba early in the morning when they stopped a green bakkie.

“While searching the vehicle, they found empty beer crates loaded at the back. The officers thought it was strange that they were conveying empty beer crates at 1.30 am.

“They decided to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle and discovered 11 50 kg mielie meal bags filled with dagga under the crates,” said Zwane.

Three people were arrested and appeared in Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court yesterday for dealing in drugs. The case was postponed to next week.
