Radebe senior: KZN MEC’s father dies

2010-09-10 00:00

ALTHOUGH losing a parent is always a painful occasion, KZN MEC for Social Development Meshack Radebe said he is grateful to God for all the wonderful years his family spent with his father, who died yesterday, aged 98.

Radebe’s spokesperson Mandla Ngema confirmed that MEC Radebe’s father Mathunywavume Albert “Shevu” Radebe (98) died of natural causes. He was born on January 21, 1912.

Radebe senior leaves his wife Hlekisile MaNdlovu, his 15 children and a total of 80 grand- and great-grandchildren.

The Radebe family, originally from the Khamazi area of Greytown, settled in the Maqongqo area in Camperdown near Pietermaritzburg.

“The MEC is satisfied that he managed to take care of his father during his last days, although he was frequenting hospitals due to old-age related sicknesses,” Ngema said.

At the time of going to press, funeral arrangements were still to be finalised.
