Radio boss tells how Gayadin ‘swore my mother’

2011-10-04 00:00

PIERCING stares were exchanged between complainant Gary Govindsamy, the head of Lotus FM News, and controversial multi-millionaire businessman Sunny Gayadin as Govindsamy was cross-examined yesterday in his defamation suit against Gayadin.

Douglas Tobias grilled Govindsamy about an allegedly “heated” conversation in which Gayadin apparently “swore Govindsamy’s mother” and accused him of accepting bribes.

Govindsamy did not have in his possession an affidavit with details of a police report of a case of intimidation against Gayadin, which Tobias said he found “strange”.

Govindsamy is suing Gayadin for R100 000 for defamation.

Gayadin received widespread publicity when he successfully halted the sale of the Natal Command site to movie mogul Anant Singh.

In his testimony, Govindsamy claimed Gayadin swore at him saying “your mother’s p***, who you f****** spoke to?”

“I said, Sunny please don’t swear at me. He then said, ‘your sister’s p***’. I again told him not to swear at me and that I was speaking to him like a gentleman.

“He again swore at me saying, ‘you’re a madarchod [suggesting he sleeps with his mother]”.

“He said he would buy Radio Lotus and I would be the “first black mandraji [low-life South Indian] bastard [he would] fire”.

“He also said he wanted to see me at a meeting on Monday where, in the presence of others, he would slap me. He then put the phone down,” said Govindsamy.

Govindsamy said he was humiliated by Gayadin’s words.
