2009-07-24 00:00

CLOUDS are rolling in with the weekend, and as the cold front continues into next week, weather experts have warned of extreme cold and potential snowfalls.

The weatherman promises snowman temperatures with a 30% chance of rain and some strong winds.

Things are looking particularly chilly in the Kokstad and Underberg region, with temperatures still sitting in the single digits, and with some mountains in Kokstad reported to be covered in snow.

Pietermaritzburg could also enjoy some rain, with a slight temperature hike, with a prediction of a maximum of 17ºC.

It’s going to be a cold weekend, so don’t forget the thermals.

In a taste of things to come, Mooi River residents were treated to sprinkles of snow yesterday.

Stephenie Pretorius, who shared her delight at the sight of snow on Facebook, described the light snowfalls as “pretty and soft”.

There were also light falls of snow in Vryheid yesterday.
